Long bio:

Sebastian Páramo (he/him) is the son of Mexican immigrants. He is the author of Portrait of Us Burning (Curbstone Books, 2023), a finalist for the 2023 Best First Book of Poetry by the Texas Institute of Letters. His poems are forthcoming or have recently appeared in Poetry London, Gulf Coast, AGNI, Poetry Northwest, Prairie Schooner, and elsewhere. 

His work has received fellowships and support from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Vermont Studio Center, the Dobie Paisano Fellowship Program at the University of Texas at Austin, and CantoMundo. Sebastián received his MFA in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College and a Ph.D. in English and Creative Writing from the University of North Texas. He is the founding editor of The Boiler and is Assistant Editor at Texas Review Press. He teaches at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Literary Events:

With R. Torres, he co-founded the Pegasus Reading Series in Dallas, Texas in 2014. The Dallas Observer named Pegasus Reading Series “Best Poetry Night” in 2015. With Courtney Marie, of Spider Web Salon, he co-founded Deep Ellum Lit Hop in 2016, a DFW event that brought together art collectives to Deep Ellum for a literary pub crawl.

In 2019, he started The Burning Plain Reading Series in Denton, Texas. Due to the pandemic, Pegasus and The Burning Plain are on indefinite hiatus. In 2020, Sebastián began the Bandwidth Reading Series.

Since 2021, he’s done pop-up events for DFW including DFW Poets’ Fest, Poetry Crush, Texas Poetry Crush at Austin Lit Crawl, and consulted on more.

Editor:

In addition to his current editorial roles, Sebastian has interned at a literary agency in New York and previously was responsible for the website redesign of American Literary Review and served as the Production and Managing Editor. He’s previously served as poetry editor for Deep Vellum where he edited and selected poetry titles.
